Nursery Bedding

Hello again!  My new goal is to blog every Monday so check back weekly to make sure I'm not slacking on the job. :)
As far as nursery bedding goes, they do have some really cute ones in the store but they all looked alike for the most part. Girl bedding was super girlie and super expensive for the most part. I wanted something girlie but not so girlie that Brandon would feel awkward in Emmi's room. To save money and get bedding that actually matched my owl theme I decided to make it.
I found some great owl fabric  and the coordinating pink and chartreuse at Joann's (check their website for a 40% off coupon). After stitching together the front panels I stitched on the brown and white owl outline and stitched on some felt wings and facial features. Finally, I added some quilt batting and a pink backing.

Nursery Organization

Hello again!
I'm currently working on some other projects, but while those are in limbo I wanted to post a nursery organization tip. This is super easy and cheap. Buy a canvas shoe rack and add some labels and you're done. The shoe rack can easily be hung on the wall or on the closet door if you're cramped for space. Either way... its amazing  when you can send your husband to the nursery to get something and he can actually find it and bring it to you. You can do your labels anyway you like. I found some clip art, printed mine on regular paper, cut them into squares, laminated them with easy self stick laminate and stapled the labels to each pocket. here are a couple of examples:

. there ya go! simple organizing for under $20!

Family Photo Tree

As I mentioned in my last post, Brandon and I live a few hours away from our parents. I wanted cool way to hang up pictures of all our family members without Emmalin's room looking like an old lady's hallway.  I love trees so this idea was perfect and fit in so well with the owl theme I planned to do (and was a super cheap way to decorate).

For starters I bought some sidewalk chalk and penciled out a tree. Don't worry if you think you're not good at drawing... the chalk erases easily with a washcloth.  Draw some semi straight lines and you've got it!  Next I painted in the outline with some cheap white acrylic paint.

I found some cheap white frames at the Target "dollar spot" and some cute ribbon at Hobby Lobby.  I stapled the ribbon onto the back of each frame and 'hung' the pictures on the branches.

Hello World!

This is my first post. Hopefully the first of many. I wanted to start a blog detailing all of the projects or fun activities I find to do with my brand new daughter.

For starters, my husband (Brandon) and I live about 3 hours away from our families so we wanted to have someway of keeping them up to date of Emmi's progress and cute pictures. One of Brandon's friends recommended Tumblr.com.   It's a free account you can upload text, video or pictures to.  You can even send updates from your phone. So far we love it and our families are getting to see how much Emmi changes each day.
